Industry 4.0 - Part 3

Previous page ...

Because along with new technology, more and more rather utopian ideas are a part of it, we have dedicated the first picture to this area. After having seen the Smartwatch in action in part 2, here we'll be dealing with hand- projection. This would then be the output-unit, whereby the camera and projector are mounted on the shoulder and the laptop is in a backpack. Apart from that, Audi also sees a future for the data-spectacles, which we'll deal with in the next part.

There are already enough Utopias, we're going to have a look at reality, which is shown in the pictures 2 to 4 above. Now, what is so special about them? Those who have seen robots, e.g., in car factories, could at most, only watch them from behind a barrier. With the new generation, this seems to have been fundamentally changed. This one at least, is passing a coolant reservoir to a human colleague. It doesn't need a Smartwatch to do this either, it only reacts when a four-cylinder A4 approaches.

Of course, we're dealing with a relatively simple task here. The human colleague could also simply bend down and take the container out of the box himself. Once again, what this is, is a start-up project for the new technology. The components are by no means, arranged in an orderly manner, but have been randomly lumped together in the box. This is a victory for the sensors, to find even the last component and to pick it out securely using the suction-cups.

Indeed, the actual speciality, can't even be seen in the pictures. It is hidden in the thick casing around the robot-arm. Therein, are further sensors, which are dedicated to registering the environment. Should the human colleague perhaps make an unexpected movement, the robot will react, thus minimising the risk of injury. Thus, the first robot has been taken out of its inhuman surroundings and has been introduced into the normal world of production.

This certainly will not stop at the passing of components. Those who have such an easily replaceable job, are well advised, to make a sincere effort to increase their qualifications as quickly as possible. In the meantime at Audi, there are training programmes for young people, who will later on, mainly be preparing the robots, which will be applied, e.g., in the finishing process. 08/15
